Meet Rayya, a 22 year old stylish Black Muslim Woman from New York. She wants to "inspire Muslim and Non-Muslim women to find their own style and slay in heir own way".
Tell Me About Yourself. What is your name, age and where are you from?
My name is Rayya Ansari, I’m 22 years old. I’m a Black Muslim woman born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. I just recently started my blog, I don’t really know what it’s about exactly but it’s different things, my thought on things, my style, how I style things without being too revealing and still staying true to myself. I’m still trying to find myself in terms of what I want to do career wise, so I’m just going day my day for now.
Why did you start blogging?
A month ago in April, so it’s really new new. I’ve always wanted to do it but have been scared so I finally just gave in and said why not just do it. I was scared of failure but I know now it takes time.
Describe your style in 3 words.
Hmmmm I’ve never thought about that. I guess unique, I don’t want to say simple but I will because I don’t like to try too many colors, and….hmm let’s come back cause this is a hard one.
Of course! So what inspires your outfits?
Oh a lot of things! I would see something on other people that I like and I would think ‘how can I make this my own thing?’. Sometimes I’ll see some pants and think of many things I can match with it to make the perfect outfit for myself. It’s different things, it just really depends on how I’m feeling that day. But I will say most things just come to my head.
I saw on your Blog that your mum makes some of your clothes? I think that is so amazing.
Yeah! So I’ll come up with the design and she’ll sew them for me. I really should learn how to sew because if I did, it’ll be over for everyone *hahaha*. But yeah she makes a lot of my pants, and actually these one’s I’m wearing right now.
What is your most treasured item of clothing?
Pants! I love pants so much. Good pants makes the outfit for me. Most of the stuff that I do have are pants, so I will decide on an outfit around the pants. Like these for example, I took them and because they’re high wasited I was like ‘oh let me pair these with a cropped jacket to complement it’, so I did.
What’s a significant moment in your life that has shaped you into who you are today?
Wow you’re making me think girl *both laugh*. A significant moment? Hmmmm.. I think my whole life has just brought me to this moment. I don’t feel like one significant moment changed me or shaped me, just everything at once. I’m 22 now, so I’m really becoming an adult. With that my mindset has changed.
What’s your biggest goal in life?
I want to be successful, but at the same time I want to inspire people in a good way. I do that now with young Muslim women, I get a lot of positive feedback from them as well as non-Muslim women. I just want to inspire people to stay true to themselves and not to change for anybody.
What is your biggest fear and why?
I’m a scaredy cat so I’m scared of everything. But umm getting to a point where i’m getting something just for money and something that doesn’t make me happy. So basically doing something I’m not passionate about because someone forced me too. Ultimately I’m scared of not staying true to myself.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
5 years I’m going to be 28, so I hope i’m successful, married, maybe with one child. But I definetly hope I’m married by then and I’m doing something that I really love to do
What’s your major now?
My major’s Psychology! Ask me what I want to do with that, I really don’t know. After sophomore year you have to pick a major, so I just went with Psychology because I took a class in it before and really liked it.
What is your life motto?
It’s really just the same thing I’ve been saying, just stay true to yourself. That’s what I try to live by, not being fake around anyone but just being myself. If you like me you like me, if you don’t hey. Not everyone’s going to like you, that’s the reality of it.
