Accountability ~ an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for one’s action

Everyday it becomes more and more necessary to hold people accountable for their actions. I find myself in situations all the time where people don’t want to take responsibility for their behaviour which is wild to me. All I hear is excuse after excuse. I know everyone does this sometimes, myself included, but when you’re known for never accepting you’re wrong then this is a problem. One of my new years resolutions was to stop giving people the power to waste my time and energy. Once I see people don’t want to accept their responsibility, I address it, pull back and get the job done myself. When you have committed yourself to getting something done, I really don’t want to hear excuses as to why it wasn’t done especially because I always make it clear that I can help.

As well as holding other people accountable, it’s also very important to hold ourselves accountable for not only our actions but our thoughts. In every situation that doesn’t work out how I wanted it to, I take a step back and analyze how I contributed to it not going as planned. This to me shows a lot of maturity when people can do this. When I surrounding myself with bad energy or break my good habits I always hold myself accountable. I’m a strong believer in the statement ‘you control your happiness’. By holding yourself and others accountable, you’re allowing yourself to learn and grow from that situation.

Last year I let a lot of things slide for myself as well as people around me. This year I am going to hold myself accountable for either achieving or not achieving my resolutions and monthly goals. At the end of the day I have the power to remove people and environments from my life that are preventing me from getting what I want. I’m going to do everything in my will to protect my peace and happiness

I know I’m late, but I hope everyone has the best year yet! Put yourself first and get what’s yours. Also, Happy Black History Month!
